This seminar provides an overview of the anatomy of the hip and knee, discusses the indications for surgical intervention, and reviews the surgical procedure for the traditional hip and knee arthroplasties, hemiarthroplasty of the hip, unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, and minimally invasive hip and knee arthroplasties. Several rehabilitaiton protocols for the surgical procedures will be reviewed and participants will practice various treatment techniques in the lab, as well as discuss and analyze common rehabilitation complications. Low vision in the elderly impacts the ability to perform basic activities of daily living, funcitonal mobility, self-feeding, socialization, communication and leisure activities. This course will provide an overview of low vision rehabilitation services including the anatomy of the eye, diagnoses and disease processes affecting the eye and definitions of key terminology. Evaluation tools will be demonstrated as well as skilled interventions, compensatory and adaptive strategies and problem solving techniques. Case examples and group activities will be utilized to apply knowledge to actual practice. This seminar provides instruction in the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, the pathophysiology of lymphedema, and the management and treatment of upper and lower extremity lymphedema. November 11, 2009 Dementia Staging and Treatment
The target audience for this course would include OT, OTA, SLP, PT and PTA. This seminar provides related cognition as well as abnormal memory changes, the protocols for staging clients with dementia, and related treatment strategies. Therapist will learn the use of several objective assessment tools used in staging clients with dementia. Participants will have the opportunity to apply these objective assessment measures and develop treatment plans based on dementia staging results. There will also be the opportunity to practice goal writing and documentation as it applies to the long-term care setting. Behavior management and communication strategies for this population will be reviewed. Role playing and small group discussions will also be used to gauge learning.
